About Us

Irish Refugee Council

The Irish Refugee Council (IRC) is an independent non-governmental organisation advocating on behalf of asylum seekers and refugees since 1992.

The Irish Refugee Council believes, in accordance with the 1951 Convention relating to the status of refugees, that every person has the right to claim asylum and to have their application considered in a fair and transparent manner. We do not do individual casework or operate a drop-in centre but we support asylum seekers and refugees at a policy level to make sure that their voices are heard on issues of concern to them and to the Irish public. We work to ensure that their human rights are respected and that they can contribute in a positive and creative way to Irish society.

The AGM of the IRC elects an Executive Board.

The current Strategic Plan runs from 2006 to 2009 and prioritises advocacy and awareness work.
